In today’s session, the group learned the roles that friends play in the recovery. Group members were to identify the reasons that not to hold on the not supportive old friendships, brainstorm the benefits of developing new friendships, and discuss how to overcome personal barriers in establishing healthy new relationships.
PO had a strong participation in the group activities and stated that he disengaged from most of his old friends. PO expressed “respect, sobriety, honesty, intelligence, positive attitude, and motivated” as some of the important values in developing new friendships. PO demonstrated an understanding of the topic by sharing personal experiences about how to overcome rejections and trust in the group. PO response to treatment overall is positive and is progressing to the preparation stage of change as evidenced by his interaction and engagement in the group process.
