His appetite had changed during his transformation. Grete cared enough to bring him many different types of food to figure out what his liked. He looked forward to her coming "But, he would of never been able to guess what his sister, in the goodness of her heart, actually did. To find out his likes and dislikes, she brought him an assortment of foods” (Kafka). This shows the love and dedication for her brother. She does not want him to be hungry or starve even though she is scared of his new appearance. She cleaning and feed Gregor as well as spent time in his room playing violin. This was Gregor’s favorite time. But Grete also started working and did not have as much time for Gregor anymore. She began to not care what foods she brought him and also started to clean quickly and did not clean as well as she did before. This shows that Grete was starting to resent the burden that Gregor was putting on her. It was when Gregor heard her speak of him as though he was just a bug and no longer her brother that he no longer wanted to live anymore. “Things can’t go on like this. Maybe you don 't realize it, but I do. I won 't pronounce the name of my brother in front of my brother, and so all I say is: we have to try to get rid of it" (Kafka). Throughout the story we see them go from the people that are being supported by Gregor to the ones that are having to step up and work and keep Gregor hidden. At the beginning of the story the weather is described as poor and dreary which symbolizes the way in which Gregor feels about his life and the work that he does. The weather is presumed to stay dreary throughout a majority of the story until after Gregors death at the end of the story. When the Samsa family is driving Kafka describes the weather and their car as, “Brightly lit by the warm sun”. This shows the weight that had been lifted off of the Samsa family after Gregors passing. It shows that they were able to come together with a equal responsibility to work. They were finally able to move forward and plan for the future unlike before when Gregor was alive the future was unknown. Although they loved Gregor they were resentful to him that they had to find him from society to keep both him and the family safe from outsiders. This was just another burden for the Samsa family that was lifted when Gregor
