In my sophomore year of high school, I was in a play called Greek Mythology Olympiaganza. I made new friends because of this event that I feel I will have for the rest of my life. During this event I learned how to control my actions and feelings while performing. I have wanted to major in acting and to perform in more plays since this moment happened. This event in my life is crucial to me because, it made me realize that I can and want to make people laugh.
In my sophomore year of high school I learned why I cherish acting so much. My school was holding auditions for a comedy play called Greek Mythology Olympiaganza. I knew the moment I heard about this play that I wanted to try out for it. During auditions, each person was to read

We read the script for the first time together with much enthusiasm. It was at that time that I met Mr. Schaefer, who was one of the drama teachers and the director of the play. He seemed like a friendly and welcoming person and I could not wait to perform for him. The script for the play was so hilarious, we could barely catch our breath from laughing so much. At the next rehearsal Mr. Schaefer assigned each of us our roles and I was surprised to learn that I would have five different roles. One of the parts I received was the Titan, Prometheus. I was glad I acquired this role because while reading the script I could see myself playing this character, especially since I was the shortest person in the play. Another role that I was pleased to acquire was the Trojan Hero …show more content…
I delighted in all the scenes where I performed alongside the other actors. One of my favorite moments in the play was when I performed with a junior named Eugene. Eugene towered over me and that would produce laughter from the audience, about our size contrast. One of my favorite scenes was where I had to procure a step stool so I could look directly into his eyes. This produced much laughter from the audience and it was difficult for Eugene and I to hold back our laughter. The stage crew also appreciated my company and thought I was accomplishing an excellent job in the play. Perhaps the most noteworthy friend I made was Mr. Schaefer himself. Mr. Schaefer assisted me extensively while we rehearsed for the play. When I possessed difficulty speaking my lines clearly he taught me how to speak them more clearly and gradually. He also taught me how to utilize accents so that my characters could be easily identified. He also assisted me on how to stand still when I needed to. I listened to his advice attentively and wholeheartedly. Mr. Schaefer’s advice has supported me a lot since then and I hope that more of his wisdom will aid me in the future. Before we could even blink, the play was already upon

In acting one I feel like I learned why more than what I intended. I think what most people and I would have thought is that acting is learning about how to play other people. But what we all can learn is that acting is way more then that. Acting is knowing that you can be anything in this whole entire universe even if this universe sees you as a nobody. I feel like everyday in this class I have a little bit more about myself.…

Furthermore, the stage setup was utilized well. With the stage in the middle, they had three sides of audience seats that surrounded the stage. I thought this set up made the play more interactive and able to focus on the main character more closely. The lighting for this play was used effectively as well.…

For awhile now, I have noticed this lovely actress who appears in various supporting roles in Hallmark and Lifetime films as well as guest and recurring roles in television shows. Since her name is Rukiya Bernard, I have never failed to not notice her name in the credits of any show or film I am watching. I am very sensitive to unusually memorable names such as hers. Add to that the fact that she appears in some of my favorite works and that she always gives a stellar performance, and I knew I had to seek out an interview with her. This summer, we set one up, but technology has only just allowed me to be able to share it with my readers.…

Drama club has given me so many opportunities. I’ve been in numerous productions, including “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”, “The Wizard of Oz”, “Kilroy Was Here”, and “The Sound of Music.” I’ve made many lifelong friends through theater, including one best friend in particular whom is very important to me. Personally, I think my constant strive to be better at what I love to do says a lot about me and shows my determination. My parents have always said the talent will only get you so far and that hard work and dedication is what will get you all the way. Being a part of theater for about 5 years now has also taught me a lot about empathy and working as a team. Learning how to embody and live as someone else for just a little while has made me a more empathetic person outside of the theater and made me more understanding to those who live differently than I do or have different beliefs and values. Rehearsing and performing with the same group of people for 4 weeks to even a few months can bring people quite close.…

The play had many actors on stage sometimes, but all the actors were able to shine through the chaos by using whatever specific quirk their character had. Though, of all the performances, Trevor’s was my absolute favorite. This is because he was able not only to be great at acting the part, and making the audience laugh multiple times, but keeping his neck still for almost two hours straight. During the performance, as I stated earlier, there were often many characters on stage at one time.…

Stage-managing the spring musical, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying by Abe Burrows, was probably the biggest accomplishment and challenge I've had so far. What stage-managing is, it's essentially an assistant director with a lot of other jobs added onto it. Those jobs include calling cues for the show, making rehearsal reports, taking all the notes you could possibly imagine for a show and working with not one but 4 other directors. . There were many challenges that faced me while working on the musical.…

I cannot remember a moment of my life where theatre has not been important for me. Being involved from a young age, I was destined to be on stage. It was not until I entered high school when I realized how difficult theatre can be; actors cannot go on stage without understanding the play, designers cannot outline anything without the proper information, and a director cannot direct without a grasp on the themes and ideas of the show. It all comes down to the research for the production. Without this literacy practice of research, no one can put on the literacy event of a performance.…

The actors had a lot of energy that undoubtedly captured the viewer’s attention. Each actor had a certain characteristic that made him or her truly fascinating to watch. They were able to interact with each and every audience member. This left me, a viewer, who was in the middle of the room, feeling as though I was in the play. The plays story may have been their biggest obstacle, however.…

I chose Drama to help me be more comfortable being in front of an audience, to meet new people, and to be more social. I had a choice to either take Drama, Music, or Art. I wanted to challenge myself and try out something new. When I was growing up I took acting classes and was in multiple plays in my elementary school but for some reason after elementary I stopped going to acting classes and being in plays. I am glad I took this class because I know it will benefit me when I have presentations in the future especially when it’s time to go to college.…

The Royal Family, written by George S. Kaufman and Edna Ferber, is a play about three generations of a wealthy family during the 1920s. I watched the play on December 6, 2015 at the Pierce College Arts Building. The play was directed Anita Adcock, who did great job setting the play as she intended it to be. Everything from the costumes, the lighting, to the typecasting was excellently produced. Particularly, the set design was able to greatly express the theme of the play.…

    Play Critique Essay

As a person who has only attened two other plays in their life, people might call me “unqualified” to review a play; these people are wrong. My qualifications for play review come solely from an “excess” amount of musicals listened to, pirated videos, and animatics watched on youtube. Seeing Guys and Dolls live was a great experience as a whole, and I enjoyed myself throughly. Understandably there were a few things that I disagreed with, so I will nitpick and pretend that my qualifications alone make me justified to critique a play that no doubt took alot of effort, stress, and love to make.…

There was a time when I doubted myself because I was unsure of the future, questioning whether I want to be a film director or a sound designer. I minored in journalism to experience things from the perspective of a reporter and see the world through different lenses.…
