The main concerns in all of these books are how Riordan incorporated Greek mythology in the books and added characters such as Percy who could be debated to resemble Perseus. Both Percy and Perseus were demigods with a divine father and a mortal mother. Perseus Eurymedon was born to Zeus and Princess Danae of Argos, and Percy Jackson was born to Poseidon and Sally Jackson. Percy and Perseus also killed Medusa by beheading her, (Hamilton151) at different circumstances, but with similar accessories. Perseus was given an adamantine sword given to him by the God Hermes (Hamilton150) and Percy (Riordan177-182) had the Celestial Bronze sword riptide given to him by his dad. Hermes provided Perseus with his winged sandals, and Hermes' demigod son Luke provided Percy with Hermes' winged sneakers. Athena provided Perseus with a polished shield to look at Medusa indirectly, and Athena's demigod daughter Annabeth found him a reflective glass. Perseus was also given Hades' Helm of Darkness to sneak into the lair of the Gorgons, and Percy only comes across the Helm later, and he never uses it. Getting to it all of the different monsters, titans, and creatures you will ever see will be in Greek mythology and that is what Rick Riordan portrays the most.
