Gandhi once said “no two leaves are alike, yet there is no antagonism between them or between the branches they grow on.” In Martin Luther King Jr's “I have a Dream” speech, he preaches his wishes for the future of the United States of America. King's speech has left a lasting impact on the people of America, and still to this day, is one of the most well known speeches in history. In his speech he discusses the lack of equality in this country and how many are discriminated based upon the color of their skin. In the modern day poem “Right to Equality” by Gouri Bhuyan, she discusses the absence of equality in the United States in the present day. Bhuyan discusses the discrimination people face due to race or gender. Both pieces discuss their hopes for change in order for people to be equal to one another.

People tend to separate people into categories based on appearance, then give these categories ranks, causing superiority and inferiority between them. Gouri goes on to say “a man superior to a woman - now who decided that? Have you considered asking why? I did and answer I never got back” (Bhuyan L.17-20).
