That is when she lives on her own at the age of 15 and sees her grandmother often because her grandmother was always gone gambling the little money she had. Her grandmother wants the best for her, and for her to stop the trend of the Hendrix women and become something other than an addict and a single mother on welfare. Her grandmother soon passes away from being sick from cancer. Rory definitely felt alone now cause the two main people that were in her life is suddenly gone. She hated the trailer home because it remind her of her horrible childhood. And because of her mom and grandmother were gone, she made a brave decision to set the trailer and everything in it on fire. Rory does this to be able to move on in her life and better her future with all her memories and past behind her.
The author 's main purpose in writing this novel is to create a message to the readers. The message is, many people will go through hardships in life and no matter what it is, one can overcome it.
