Girl With The Elephant Analysis

Every painting has a unique story that a person cannot particularly be told but can tell from the feelings that they get from the image. In the oil painting “Girl with the Elephant” the girl seems to be leaning on the elephant for comfort because she looks sad. The girl and the elephant are in what seems to be a lake or water hole, because the water looks not dirty but murky. It is also known that the elephant is about mid-aged and the photo is black and white. There is a background in the picture that is not that clear and it causes the person looking at it to focus more on the elephant and girl than the background. In this particular paining the movement goes from the elephant first then to the girl and then the water and the background. The elephant stands out the most to the person looking at the painting because it has such a detailed texture on its head. It looks so life like that it just jumps off the page, the next thing was the girl she is the next focal point because she has an interesting shadow in the water and very life like features. The background is the last thing that the eye goes to because it is a blurred image that is made to be in the background and made not to draw that much attention. Another principle of design is balance. There is a balance between the color is good for this painting. Even though it is black and white the contrasts are good enough not to blend together. The artist of this painting was almost respecting the main objects and used other shades to benefit them.
