Although people believe our government and the Party in 1984 share no similarities, the two governments frighteningly resemble too closely to one another because they both publically and privately watch over their citizens through the use of technology and people, and they also change or restrict information given to the public in order to make the nation look more appealing. Big Brother spys on its people through the use of strategically placed telescreens as to interfere with any conversation being given, and also trains the children to become loyal enough to turn in any suspicious people they encounter no matter who they may be. Our government parallels their behavior in that they hack into citizens’ personal emails, texts, and voice recordings as to intercept anything they deem as suspicious. With propaganda, although our government does not intend to make the population remain in an amnesia-like state, it to copies they ways of Big Brother when altering information in history books as to make the nation appear more heroic than brutish and aggressive. Orwell highlights these points throughout the novel in order to persuade the reader to look at those they trust in a new light in hopes that they open their minds and not follow anything with a blind pair of…

The rule of big brother is one characterized by oppression while at the same time hiding the fact that they are doing so. It is reliant on information control through methods such as brain washing and the removal of free thought and those who possess it. This is vital as Big Brother’s rule was reliant on the proles, who make up eighty percent of the population, to remain uneducated and clueless as to what is occurring so they do not revolt. However the notion that the truth can be hidden forever is nothing more than wishful. The rule of Big Brother could never endure, and the major cause of its downfall would be the rise of a free thinking leader or a leak of the truth that causes the proles to unite and overthrow Big Brother.…

A dystopian society is a dehumanized civilization manipulated by the government into thinking life is perfect. Aq dystopia is the exact opposite of a utopia: it 's citizens are forced to conform to uniform expectations by the government, their thoughts and actions are always restricted and under constant surveillance, and propaganda is heavily used to persuade citizens that society is perfect. For example, in the dystopian novel, 1984 by George Orwell, the people all wear the same uniform and everyone’s thoughts are screened by the thought police. In “Harrison Bergeron” the citizens’ thoughts are controlled and maintained by the government as well. In contrast to these two stories, The Purge: Anarchy is a dystopian movie that takes place in…

Big Brother’s main slogan is, “WAR IS PEACE / FREEDOM IS SLAVERY / IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH” (Orwell 4). This is not a very trusting or accepting phrase. These phrases are all contradictory towards each other. War is not a peaceful action, slavery is the lack of freedom, and strength does not include ignorance. Big Brother is teaching nothing but false ideas, but the citizens see him as a wonder, trusting,…

One example of this statement would be when Ms. Parson invites Winston to her apartment to fix her kitchen sink and Winston sees how loud and violent her two children are. Winston thinks in his mind, “Another year, two years, and they would be watching her night and day for symptoms of unorthodoxy...organizations such as the Spies were systematically turned them into ungovernable little savages (Orwell 1.2.25). Ms. Parson also shows signs of nervousness around her kids because she knows what they might do to her. In short, Big Brother brainwashes children and are another way of the people always being controlled and is another way of eliminating anyone who is against them. How this connects with our world today would be how regular people spy on one another.…
