The protagonist of Animal Farm, “Our Leader, Comrade Napoleon, Father of All Animals, Terror of Mankind, Protector of the Sheep-fold, Ducklings ' Friend” (Orwell 91), started out as a common farm pig among the rest of his animal friends. Napoleon, along with fellow pigs Snowball and Squealer, under the teachings of Old Major, create a new mind of Marxist thinking called Animalism. The manipulation of the rest of the animals starts in chapter one of the novel, with a speech to the rest of the animals implanting hatred towards mankind, "Man is the only creature that consumes without producing...he gives back to them the bare minimum that will prevent them from starving, and the rest he keeps for himself" (7). The Seven Commandments which were previously declared as ``unalterable law ' ' (9) are changed over time to fit the needs of Napoleon. (Robb 2) In the book, the original Sixth Commandment declared ‘No animal shall kill any other animal’ (Orwell 9) , but later when read by Muriel it was changed to ‘No animal shall kill any other animal without cause’ (35).
