This quote relates to all of the characters because there is more to them than what you see. They all had their own struggles and ways of happiness that they had to find. The key to unlocking her heart was the garden. It helped her feel emotions she has never felt before and it helped her have friends and a family. She started to realize that she could do things for herself without help from others. She didn’t need someone to help her get dressed, feed her, and help her do whatever she needed to be done. The garden helped her reach many new milestones for her. She became better friends with Dickon, she plants flowers, she teaches Colin how to walk, and she finally cries. There is more to unlocking her heart that just the garden, another huge part is the people around her. She wouldn’t have been able to have friends or family without the push from Martha and Ms. Medlock. She would've never met Dickon if it wasn’t for Martha. She would've never known that Colin was her cousin without the help of Ms. Medlock. For Mary, she has many keys that can unlock her heart, even if she doesn’t realize they are helping her. The first time she cried was when Lord Craven came back and Colin showed him the garden. She felt abandoned because she was the one that made the garden.
