Bones make us have structure; without bones you would be spaghetti. However, with too many bones or irregular bone growth could mean a disease. Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva is a disease of the skeletal system that creates new bone growth when a subjects or patients muscle and connective tissue are slowly replaced by bone through heterotopic ossification forming bone outside of the skeleton. This process causing loss of mobility, swelling, and pain. The main abnormality or sign of this disease is the big toe. The ossification can start at birth and last to sixteen years of age. The ossification usually begins in the cervical para-spinal muscles and spreads to the appendicular, caudal and distal sites. So far there is no cure however
