The government has failed to control the activities of the food industry. The overall purpose of the documentary is to encourage Americans to leave sugary products and educate their children about what is healthy and what is not. Ultimately, Fed Up 2014 is successful in showing sugar and the food industry are responsible for obesity in America by using good ethos and logos, but the main strength of the documentary is using pathos to show personal experiences of children. The producer and director of the documentary Fed Up 2014 use logos by giving clear examples and evidence behind their claim. They first describe claim that increased sugar consumption and corruption of food industries and after that they give reason and evidence behind their claim. This claim points towards the food industry that instead of thinking about the American’s health, the food industry is preferring its profit. The documentary shows that in 1980 there were no cases of children with Type 2 diabetes, but today there are 57,638 cases of children with Type 2 diabetes in America. This clearly explains how sugar has increased the rate of diabetes. The documentary also shows that between 1980 and 2000 the fitness club memberships more than doubled across the United states but obesity rates also doubled in that same period. Soechtig ,the director of the documentary, is also the producer and director of the award winning documentary Tapped which shows that she is well educated and a successful director and producer.
