Analysis Of Fannie Haler

Improved Essays
The film made me feel disgusted on how race used to be and how it still is. It’s crazy that many people got killed or tortured for what skin color they were, and they weren’t able to have rights as everyone else did. Some people were put on a pedestal, and others were not. Fannie Hamer stuck out the most to be because although she was fired from her job, she kept standing up for what she believed in.

    Eve's Bayou Analysis

Firstly, in my opinion, Kasi Lemmons’ Eve’s Bayou turned out to be totally different than I expected, because at first, when it begins, I thought it was going to be some kind of “slavery” film shown in the ‘perspective of the slaves’, just because of the scenario that they used (the house near the bayou) and because it’s a typical kind of theme used by other non-black directors to do. I really liked it and it made me think about fraternal love a lot. Moreover, the end is shocking and it makes the viewer realize that the family is just a normal one with its life and its problems, and it could be the same if the family was a white one, showing that we are all the same and that we all have the same problems. “Memory is a selection of images,…

The article “When School Was Scary” and the poem “The Ballad of Birmingham” both show very harmful events. The event that happened to the little girl in “The Ballad of Birmingham” is very different and more effective/powerful compared to what happened in “When School Was Scary”. In the article, Elizabeth got verbally and physically abused, but in the poem, the little girl walks into a church and then it gets bombed. Getting blown up is more destructive than getting bullied.…

Summer Slininger Latino: The Changing Face of America is a documentary that dives deep into the fact that in the future the United States will face a demographic shift and Latinos will become the largest demographic group. Roxane Frias created this documentary to inform people about how the Latino population will begin to have a large influence on the United Sates future within politics and communities. This movie was an eye opener for me, as before watching this film I was oblivious to many of the facts that were spread throughout the film. When the film began to talk about how the presidential candidates need to receive the Latino vote in order to win presidency, I was a little weary on that fact.…

The horrors of segregation, the Civil Rights Movement, and the struggle against oppressors all brought to light the darkness and hypocrisy behind the flag which stood for equal rights for all. The part which frightens me the most is the fact that we thought we progressed as a nation past racism, yet the recent rumblings in the political and social sphere show that we still have much work to do. In Eyes on the Prize, Emmett Till, nonviolence with MLK Jr., and white culture are topics which stood out to me the most for early reaction towards the documentary. The image of Emmett Till and his brutally mutilated body under a picture of him smiling will forever be burned into my memory.…

In today’s society which we call the United States of America there may be many predictions, speculations, and myths that have been thought of when it comes to our history. I have analyzed and did my own research on the history of racism. Racism is the belief of people of each race, who acts as if one is superior to another race. There are several prejudice practices practiced by racial individuals which discriminates against people of other race and due to their skin color. I watched four movies such as Birth of a Nation, Beloved, 13th, and Do the Right Thing which tells us where racism comes from, and how it is has changed over the years.…

Before I started this class, I never really thought about race, racialization, or racial formations. Anything that had to do with race or racial matters was only talked about in the privacy of my home or during family discussion. I never really quite understood how your race could impact your life until I started experiencing it myself. My definition of race was entirely different from what I would define it as now. I thought race was just about your skin color and nothing else.…

Hate and fear that exist between people because of race or ethnicity can be stripped away under the right circumstances and lead people to realize that we are all fundamentally the same regardless of race or ethnicity. Racism and discrimination continue to exist in the United States today. Racism and discrimination tend to group people together based on stereotypes associated with a particular race or ethnicity. This was important to show because the south is notoriously known for having racist traditions. This film being released in the 90s, a few short years after the book’s release in the 80s, is trying to help continue the change of people’s mindset. The movie does this in a gentle way by throwing in comedy. Having this film made decades after these events transpired has more of an impact because it helps the audience have an understanding of each time period and what it took to be where we are…
