With all the different song lyrics put into songs, it’s easy to not know the writers thinking behind the lyrics. In today’s decade the writer could just being using the lyrics for rhyming scheme, rather than letting it have an actual meaning. What to also consider is the way each individual understands the lyrics. Everyone could hear the song and compare it to a different thing based on their past memories or experiences. With “Eyes Open” by Taylor Swift, it’s easy to think of different ways to view this song. But the main focus was on staying true to the beliefs one may have and not let anyone tear one down. What Taylor means by that in a deeper meaning is that people will constantly be watching the actions of other people around them. Whether the person knows the other person or envies them. If the people are on a name to name basis then they will mostly be watching to see whether they succeed or fail, depending on the type of relationship they have with one another. When saying that, it’s important to because on who to trust based on their true intentions. This song doesn’t only talk about what other people think about each other but also what their mind thinks of them. Everyone has an ego that may haunt them and their thoughts in their head. If there is a belief one may have don’t second guess it because this song is explaining to trust that belief. Whenever everyone was younger they didn’t have to be worried about being judged or ridiculed. That suddenly changes once they enter the real world, their subconscious comes into play and makes them think people are constantly judging them. There wasn’t an actual bridegroom, it was Jesus teaching the lesson to the ten virgins. Oil in the story wasn’t actual oil, it was energy one has in their body or otherwise compared to as a lamp. The quote, “Keep awake therefore for you know neither the day nor the hour” (Matthew 25:13) is Jesus’s way of teaching to always paying attention because one never knows what the day has to offer. Which relates with Taylor Swift’s song, “Eyes Open”. “Eye’s Open” talks about not closing eyes because it may make one vulnerable to the real world. One day you’re a kid with no worries in the world, then suddenly thrown into the real world. Judgement is everywhere but it always depends on how one handles it and keeps their mind and eyes
