Eva Saulnier: Transitioning Change To Triumph Eva Saulnier’s childhood involved the attendance in a music school and soon transitioned into the lifestyle of an athlete. It may have taken her mum telling her that staying inside the house was bad, to get a golf club into her hand, but it didn’t take long for the 10-year-old to find a passion for the game. Even as a late bloomer entering into the sport, Eva found joy in the patience and skill required. As well as, the adapting to the various factors that create a sufficient swing and the mentality needed to execute what is needed. She quickly traded in her favorite instrument, a harpsichord, for a set of golf clubs. Saulnier, a recent graduate of UNM, as well as, a four year member of the Women’s Golf Team, has created quite the resume for her golfing career. Starting out as a teammate on the French Junior National Team, she then went on to become to 2010 Grand Prix de la Rochelle champion as well as, the 2012 Grand Prix de Touraine champion, and continue on the place fifth in the 2013 British Girls Junior. It didn’t take much for Eva to decide on UNM after a very comforting first impression of coach, Jill Trujillo. She states that she likes it because “you have to be really patient for the sport - a round is like 4 and a half hours so if you want action it’s not the sport for you, but you have to be really mentally tough and it’s fun.” She enjoys the game for the many aspects that need to be focused on, such as, the swing, the mentality, and the weather and how each of these aspects make the game unpredictable. Her team is her motivation, Phil Mickelson is her inspiration. Weather plays a key role in the game and she’d rather be playing in beautiful weather than the beginning of the semester when it is really cold. She’ll never pass up on some one-on-one competition with her teammates
