Children should not be exposed to any kind of violence because it can interfere with their brain mentally. Colonel Graff, the principle of the battle school, was impressed with the fight Ender had with the bully named Stilson and how he beated him pretty badly; Ender’s mother disapproved with the impression, “‘And he passed? Mother was incredulous. Putting the Stilson boy in the hospital? What would you have done if Andrew had killed him, given him a medal?’”(19). Ender’s mother was shocked that an officer was proud of the decision Ender made that got him invited to the battle school because Graff was basically promoting violence to Ender, saying it is ok to use which made the novel disturbing. Also, the violence while in battle school made the children being in the characters more disturbing because of the actions they took. Ender and Bonzo were fighting in the bathroom because Bonzo wanted to kill him, “Ender whirled in time to see Bonzo stagger backward, his nose bleeding, gasping from surprise and pain”(211). The quote shows how Ender was defending himself from Bonzo, who wanted to kill him. The character should not have been a child and shown that violence was the problem solver. Just like ancient Rome, where the brave Gladiators were fighting to survive. They killed other men and dangerous animals for the entertainment of the citizens. In today’s world we are almost given the same thing, but we are watching it in our television and wherever we get the chance to see violence in person. Colonel Graff was obsessed with killing the buggers that he did everything he could to make Ender destroy them all. Also, there are a lot of violent films that people gaze their eyes into and are not bothered by what they see. Ayush Midha in her article The Neuroscience of Agression: Why Humans are Drawn to Violence says, “Violent movies and video games attract large numbers of fans, quite possibly because humans are instinctively attracted to the thrill and suspense associated with portrayed violence”(Midha). This quote is significant because it shows the reality of how our society are drawn to see violence. Ender’s Game won awards and was the New York Times best seller because of the amount of violence is has and because most of the violence that was used were by children. It is the reason why as a society, are known as violent people; although, some people are not into seeing violence, it is important to keep the number of violence that the media is showing to people to keep it low.
