The novel Inventing George Washington by the historian Edward G. Lengel takes place in the late 1770’s a time when America was still trying to come together as a nation. Other historians, that are not well equipped with knowledge, tend to base their knowledge off of other historians who do not know what they are talking about. Lengel however has studied and researched George Washington to the core. He wrote this book to discuss myths portrayed against Washington, and back it up with facts. Lengel displayed two sides of Washington, his personal life and his work life. Lengel shows how Washington was misunderstood when it came to expressing his faith. Washington first military battle was the French and Indian War, and he was one of the few survivors. Also, the French and Indian War was known as “the first World War in all of human history” and it is significant that the founder of our country was able to take part in the war. Throughout the book Lengel takes the reader on a journey, and makes one’s mind change about George Washington after each event. George Washington’s life still remains a mystery is so many aspects when it comes down to trying to figure out what went through his mind.
