Day In The Trenches: Poem Analysis

Upon the class ' return on Tuesday after a three day weekend, the highly anticipated showing of war poem reenactments commenced. The week before, each group was assigned a poem to recite and act out. Originally, we were prompted to present the day after it was assigned, but due to meeting with counselors about the rest of our (Clark) future, it was postponed to Tuesday. In short, we had four whole days to prepare. In theory, but not so much in practice.

First up was the "Soldier," performed by two out of the three groups assigned to it. The third group, unfortunately, had an absent member with no understudy therefore being rescheduled the day after. The dissatisfaction of the rescheduled group— Sammy, Patricia, Damian, Hakob, Rita, and Ani— was made evident by their smug look at the performing groups.

One of the groups performing "Carry On"— Nick, Mathew, Derick, and Vachik— was especially popular, their offbeat but expressive reading was accompanied by a dance routine reminiscent to the nineties boy band group, NSYNC. Or was it Backstreet Boys? Regardless, their performance ended with a bang... Nick falling behind a computer cart. Bye bye bye that landing I suppose. (Disclaimer: No student was hurt in the making of this class

The work soon became ver stressful when we realised on of the VTs was poor quality and we needed to do another one to replace it. This shouldn’t have been stressful as we’d already mapped out so many ideas but no one would go out and make contact or film the location. So it was again left for the same five or six people to do the work. I found this extremely stressful as when it became very close to the live show and time was crucial, people were still not turning up for rehearsals and even when they did show, they had a million questions that had been covered and answered serval times but either weren’t there to hear or just weren’t paying attention. One of the main issues within the production group was that certain people complained that they never get a say in what we do, but when given a chance to put forward ideas they said nothing.…

They cheered concurrently as they clapped when I spun all around on the slick cafeteria surface like a dreidel. Everyone went crazy! I received more praises from break dancing than I ever did impersonating Michael Jackson. I advanced my break dancing talents in high school when I joined a hip-hop club and that steered me toward busting a move at nightclubs when I attended Jr. College. Getting back to fifth grade, my alliance with Runt declined as time marched on.…

He explains that people were dancing like anything else did not matter, like the rest of the world did not exist and there were only dancers and the dance floor. When black and white dancers started to dance together it was a shock for the rest of the people who saw their performances. 'We didn 't knew white or black, we knew dancing '. (Manning, 2009) He also says that, dance sequences looked like dancers were flying it was so fast with high jumps and a lot of tricks. That Shorty also brought humor for the Lindy Hop style as he was short and his partner was really tall and it was funny to watch them dance.…

Alex was also an actor. It's what I mainly attribute to him being so damn good at talking. He started doing plays in third grade and never found a way not to be in one. Wizard of Oz, Romeo and Juliet, he was in pretty much everything. Sure, he mainly got small parts, but everyone was amazed at how spot on he could take those small parts.…

My first year of high school was winding down, teachers had covered all learning material, and most students were preparing for finals. June had just begun, and along with studying, I had an upcoming saxophone recital for which I had been preparing since April. The Tuesday before my recital, I had my second to last lesson with my teacher, Fred Scerbo, before the recital on Sunday. I was preparing a piece by Charlie Parker named "Anthropology". Despite its difficulty, I felt that I would be able to perform it well.…

At TXVA, all work assigned is due the following Sunday, but students are given up to four weeks to turn these assignments in before the late policy take effect. On the contrary, HHS teachers have the privilege to assign work with their chosen due date and students are required to turn their work in on that day are the late policy will take effect. Both TXVA and HHS late policy and grading policy is practically identical. After the due date of an assignment the highest grade a student can make is a B and everyday this letter grade will go down until it reaches an F. On a grading scale of 0 – 100, A = 90-100%, B = 80-89%, C = 70-79%, and F = 0 – 69%. Students who receive less than a 70% in any course will not receive credit for that course, but they may repeat a course in which they have earned an F. Students are promoted based on the number of credits earned, 0 – 6.5 credits = 9th grade, 7 - 12.5 credits = 10th grade, 13 - 18.5 credits = 11th grade, and 19+ credits = 12th grade.…

This happened three times, our mood and morale was not in a good place because of this and the game hadn 't even started yet. Our stand manager finally came back from doing last minute paperwork, and saw the corrections we had made to the coolers due to the other stand managers, and our manager went to get the ones that had told us to do the wrong thing so many times, and from a distance I heard…

For example, I was taking a research class in ninth grade and they gave us two weeks to come up with the paper about anything we wanted that we have researched it could be an animal or a person. When they assigned it I said, “I got two weeks to do it, I can do in the last week”. When that week came I decided that I could actually do it in the last three days and break it down and three parts. In reality I was just postponing it every time that date came that I said I would do it and ended up doing it the night before and I stressed myself out and I stayed up all night to be able to have it done by the next day in the morning. This is a scenario that happened to me, that I realized that procrastination did me no good but just overwhelming on the last day.…
