There was few children who had a play shopping cart, they were filling the cart up with blocks and pretending the blocks were groceries. They would go from one side of the side walk to the other pretending it was a grocery store. Thus showing a form of Dramatic and Symbolic Play. There was another small group of children making a tire chip hill. Next to them a few feet away was another little boy putting some chips onto a play shovel. At first I wondered if he was making his own tire chip hill, showing Parallel Play. As I watched more closely though I noticed when the pile would get high, he would pick up the shovel and go dump the tire chips onto the bigger groups pile. Then go back over to his space and start again. Soon a little girl came over to help him with his pile. So now there were two groups making tire chip piles, illustrating behavioral contagion. Meanwhile a little girl named Pepper* pushed two other girls while on the slide. Alyssa goes over and leads Pepper to the wall and tells her “You cannot push your friends off the slide. The fountain is located next to Melissa’s office so she came out to talk to the children and see how their day was going. The children excitingly tell Melissa about their time outside. Some even talked about the dragonfly. Once half of the children are done getting a drink, Kayla leads them back into the classroom leaving the other half with Alyssa at the fountain. Once inside the room the children wash their hands and Kayla goes over to the TV to get the movie basket. Two of the little girls go over to Kayla once their done washing their hands to see what she is up to. Kayla lets them pick out the movie Ice Age and tells them they can either watch the movie or have free play time.
