A guide on college living and dorming on an all girls floor
College can be a scary experience and for many it may be the first time you are moving away from home, but there is nothing to worry about. College is a safe place to learn about yourself and develop relationships that can last a lifetime. So, even if college is not what you expected don’t worry everything will be alright.
Expectations v. Reality
We all dream and have expectations of how college is going to be like, but what we see in the movies isn 't always true. Here are three facts I wish someone told me before I went to college;
1. Friends
Making friends in college is not hard, just like you everyone is in a new environment and trying to make friends. Just keep …show more content…
Roommates
Not all of us are lucky enough to be rooming with our friends and we don’t always become best friends with our roommate(s) and that is okay.
3. Partys
There is always a party going on somewhere and staying in one weekend won’t ruin your social circle. School always comes first.
Friends
When going to college more likely than not you don’t know anyone attending the university and are quite nervous about making friends. There are a few things you should keep in mind when making friends;
1. Invite
It may seem daunting at first but simply calling someone over is probably the simplest way to make friends. When I first moved to Salem State I sat in the lounge playing board games and inviting people to join, the people I meant at the table ended up being some of my closest friends.
2. Open Door
Leave the door to your room open, oddly enough people will just wander in to see what 's up. Eventually, a future friend will come in
3. Open Mind
In college, there are many different types of people and you should not judge anyone before you get to know them. My friend group is really diverse, but once you sit down to talk with us you will learn that we are all weird.

Food
An important thing to remember while living in the residence halls is that university food is not always the best. We all dream that one day we will wake up and the Salem State dining halls have learned to how to season food, but that 's not happening anytime soon. So, students have to learn to work with and around the food provided by the university.
1. Dining Hall
While the food in the dining halls often lacks seasoning, there is usually salt and pepper on the tables. Salt can go a long way. It is also important to know that North campus dining hall has odd hours; after breakfast regardless if you have a meal plan you have to pay for lunch, the hall is closed after two on Fridays, and not open during the weekends
2. Mini-fridge
Before going to college make sure to invest in a fridge. Once in while you may not feel like get up and going to the dining halls or it may not be worth it. So, stock up on frozen and canned meals, don 't forget fruits and vegetables.
