In the Dennis Gilbert and Joseph Kahl’s model of social class, there are couple of criteria classify people into different social class ladders, such as the Capitalist, Upper Middle Social Class and Working Poor. Usually the model will judge the people through looking on their family income, occupation of family member hold and their education level. Under the model, I believe that my family belongs to the Upper Middle Social Class. It is mainly because my family income is above $125,000, but below the income earned from capitalist. Also, my parents were the small and medium sizes business owners, the occupation of their job title is similar with the profession and upper manager. However, my parents did not receive so much education, they …show more content…
I receive an education told me to work hard and get away from the poverty. But when I grow up and start to realize there were some people could not make enough money to afford for their basic needs. Their expenses such as housing, food or transportation fee are relying on the social subsidy to pay off. Even though they work very hard, they could not get away from the poverty. I believe that the Working Poor Social Class teaches me the wealth inequality inside the society. Some people make money more than they need, but some people cannot make money to support their daily basic need. I think it influences me that education is necessary and important if people want to have an upward mobility, since most of the working poor people do not receive much education. Therefore, I will work harder to get my college degree which might open the door for achieving the upward mobility or stay in the upper social …show more content…
They always placed into the Upper Social Class Ladder because of their education and income once they graduated from the college. However, I decide not to go into the professional career path way. I think everyone should have own formula to achieve success, not everyone has to follow the other’s experience. Therefore, I choose to study the subject that I interested in. I believe that I will still earn a chance to have upward mobility in the social class ladder if I keep my passion on working something I am interested. In conclusion, I was placed into the Upper Social Class Ladder, which I think I will stay in the same social class in the future. I would like to walk into the financial sector in my future career and the Working Poor, Capitalist, Upper Middle Class have huge influences towards myself, which affect my future aspiration on the social class and career path

For generations of Americans, the general question of: “What class are you in?” was so easy to answer. If you owned a house, lived in it with your family, and supported your family with a well-paying job, you were considered a member of America’s upwardly middle class. But in recent years, statistics have shown that U.S. citizens are struggling with social class system and cannot answer that question. “Class in America,” by Gregory Mantsios is a very effective essay because it provides the necessary evidence, arguments, structure, facts, and style of how Americans are struggling now a days by finding the right class they belong to, and assures that life expectancy is based on class differences.…

Throughout U.S history, socio-economic classes have been established to categorize our place in society. The lower, middle, and upper class, make up the socio-economic structure of the American people. The social system groups people according to wealth, income, education, social network and other factors. Many different models have been proposed to characterize people’s social class, though the U.S most commonly uses the simple three class structure. The middle class, the social group between the upper and working classes, including professional workers, small business owners, and low-level managers; is essential to a thriving economy and successful democracy (Social Class, n.d).…

People may claim they are ‘middle class’, but they’re still lower than the elite. The gap between the working class and middle class is closing, but it’s going the opposite direction between the elite and middle class. Individuals may claim that class does not matter, but it will still be a form of identity which will continue to divide them into different groups. However, the British Class Survey does suggest that individuals who come from different social backgrounds demonstrate similar traits of another though the same lifestyle. Economic differences do not hold much significance in contemporary Britain, which may be the cause of the change in the class system.…

I believe the bases for the socioeconomic class are income and education. A person fit to a socioeconomic class depends on the combination of economic situation and education, which dictates a person’s social position or class in relation to others. The base of income is clearly associated with wealth, which could be inherited. Each base is pertinent when creating your individual opinion. Indeed, I believe that a person with a frivoling economic situation, rich, high income and higher education is considered upper class within our society.…

Based on my occupation, education, income, and wealth I fit in with the lower middle class. Working part-time for minimum wages in a bakery but with some college education, places me in this lower middle class percentile. My yearly income ranks in the bottom fifth percentile and my household's net worth ranks in the lower middle class as well. I do not live with either of my parents, but I know for fact that they each would rank in the lowest percentile based on occupation, income, and wealth being that neither by mother or father has any occupation or income and little to no household net worth. I am unsure if my mother ever had any college education, I know my father dropped out of college before earning any degree or certificate, but both had high school diplomas which would…

Some have the experience and childhood where things were given to them with a silver spoon, but there are also others who have to fight for everything they have and in most cases it’s their life. It is clear to understand that nature of class privileges, and society. According to the article, Gregory defined the phrase “social class” on how it represents people in the world. He states, “workers are most likely to identity with their to identity with their employer, industry, or occupational group than with other workers, or with the working class” (Mantsios, 26). Gregory makes us to understand that employees mostly identify themselves under certain classes that describes where they fall under that class society.…

Boudon states there are primary (the possible class subcultural effects in attitudes and values developing from unequal social class stratification or category system) and secondary effects (originate from classes’ different positions of individual pupils within the social class stratification system). He states that working class families have lower ambitions for their children and settle for lower level education and work, but the middle class and above have higher ambition for their children and want them to achieve a higher education and career . He also claims that if a working class individual had higher ambitions, for example, to become a doctor, for themselves and took the necessary measures to get there, they would consequently weakening their attachment with their family and peer group. A middle class child with the same ambitions, on the other hand, would strengthen it as they are following a similar path to their family and would not be alienating themselves, so no risks are taken. From this, you could determine that an individual’s class position could affect their future education and career (The History Learning Site, 2016).…
