Parque Fundidor A Short Story

On a typical of the many dog days near the end of summer of 2014, a young girl was waiting for what felt to be the longest two and a half hours of her life; she was on the road in a charter bus to the enormous city of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. For half of the time on that bus, she had tried to position herself in any way in order for her to comfortably take a nap, however the old overused lumpy seats were essentially impossible to snuggle into. Despite the hot ninety-degree weather outside, the air condition inside the bus felt colder than Alaska, and of course just as her luck seemed to be, she had forgotten a sweater. Even past both of their sunglasses, they were able to see each other’s eyes as they glossed with inevitable attraction. According to Adrian Catron, the look that the couple shared was a look of “Mamihlapinatapei”, in the Yaghan language, this means a look shared between two people who want to initiate something, (The Huffington Post). Then, as they arrived to the famous “Parque Fundidora” that glowed in green light from the abundant radiant grass, they spoke to each other at once. It all began as ordinary small talk, questioning about what school they attended, their classes, and what it was like to live in such different places. Evidently, with each word becoming sweeter, each smile growing wider, and each laugh growing louder, they couldn’t get enough of each other. Further, their conversations developed from usual small talk to significant and personal details about one another. The most significant conversation came to develop as they both found in common that their parent’s marriages due to infidelity ended terribly. The young girl was in astonishment of just how similar a person can be to oneself, one tends to feel that the other person is evidently the missing part of one’s soul. Utmost, the young girl delayed to agree to be in a formal relationship with the boy for so long due to the fact that she wanted to be sure that she could fall in love with his flowers, and still be in love with his roots once winter came and after the flowers perished. It was inexpiable for her to tell how she felt, she loved him so much, more than anything and anyone, through this time she learned the significance of love. Not the materialistic and expensive aspect of it, but the aspect of it that is defined by sacrifice, patience, and kindness that is demanded in order to keep the fire burning
