Robert C. Wolcott wrote an article titled “Leading People too Smart to be Led” at Harvard Business review last February 02, 2017. This article is about how David Krakauer leads the SFI (Santa Fe Institute); the world’s leading research institution, a wildly creative and highly effective organization with no departments, no formal hierarchies and no tenure. Dealing with top scientist all over the world with various believes and disciplines, Krakauer was able to represents intellectual contributions of SFI in diversified field of society. And he imparted essential things on how to lead leaders in his Institution. One of the things he quoted was “Lead by example and set a tone,” meaning to say Leader must be a model not an icon. One must understands failure and appreciates reckless ideas among his subordinates, having the knowledge …show more content…
The one who leads us sees every little failure of her subordinates, prohibited good laughs with co-employees and raced with us towards achieving our common goal. The article presented as case study had shown me a different perspective. In order for you to engage your staff in providing the best service to your guests, clients or partners, you must enroll them in your vision and align their perceptions and behaviours. You need to get them excited about where you are taking them while making sure they know what’s in it for them. Having the power to lead, you must look after your people, their needs, listen to them and involve them with your goals. David Krakauer is indeed an intelligent person who values humility though he does not valorize failure he still considers curiosity as a way to understand things around us and to step out of the box and explore beyond our limits.
