A Child Called “It” is the heart wrenching account of Dave Pelzer’s childhood. Raised in Daly City, California, Dave had a fairly normal childhood at some point, though, things change. His emotionally unstable and alcoholic mother, Catherine Roevra, begins to beat and starve him. She starts to play tortuous and erratic games that many times leaves Dave nearly dead. Dave soon realizes that if he does not learn how to play his mom’s games, he will not survive. Catherine no longer considered Dave a son, but a slave; and he was no longer a boy, but an “it”.
