Vygotsky’s perspective on development and learning is that higher mental functioning in the individual derives from social life (Vygotsky, 1978). He believed that a child learns through his social and cultural influences. As an educator, I too believe that a healthy and strong socio-emotional environment will impact the overall development of a learner in every phase. His inner drive will provide him with motivation and energy to learn various positive things to grow and develop. Every child’s ability, interest, and limits differ from the other child. As an educator, I will guide and motivate them to perform in better ways of acquiring knowledge. I would also like to create an environment where every learner should be heard with equal empathy and dignity irrespective of the diversity amongst the learner’s cast, creed, gender or socio-economic background. Huitt claims teacher characteristics includes his knowledge about the content domain, human growth and development (theories, topics, and stages). Learning theory (behavioristic, cognitive, constructivist, humanistic, social cognition), and the teaching/learning process (concepts and principles as well as their application in formal and informal environments (Huitt, 2003). Hence as an educator I should be able to understand the student’s need and work accordingly. As an educator, I would help my learners to acquire knowledge to use it in real life situations whenever required. I would make the learning process in between the student friendly enough where both of us can flourish to attain desired goals and me.
