Cuse Eats is the program that I will be participating in. This program consists of three different projects in which my group members and I will be able to participate in.
The first project that we could participate in is the Try Me program in which every Monday of this semester we will be in dining halls handing out samples of new foods and also giving out information about the health and nutrition health benefits that these foods may provide.
The second project that is available for us to work and participate on is the NY Campus Crunch, which consists of an event that happens October 20th. According to fall 2015 the total university enrollment for Fall 2015 is 27,789, with undergraduate making up more than half of the overall students. A little bit more than half consists of women while the other consist of men and about twenty-five percent of the total student population represents minority students. All of this is important because we have to be able to appeal to all of these different groups and also cater to their needs.
Since more than half of the students that attend Syracuse University are undergraduate students who are mostly between the ages of eighteen to twenty-two years old it is important for us to promote health and nutrition events because at this age our body is still developing to form different habits that will benefit or damage our health in the future.
This project is heavily correlated with Healthy People 2020 and its topics and objectives that they wish to work and improve on. One of the objectives within the Physical Activity topic in Healthy People 2020 is to increase the amount of time walking by adults aged 18 years and older to 1 mile or more a day, which is what this event promotes with a mile walk around campus. Also, in the Health Communication and Health Information Technology topic of Healthy People 2020 one of the objectives is to increase the number of people who use electronic tools to keep track of health information which this project also helps to promote by providing an app to record the amount of steps or time you walked or ran.
Not only does this project address many topics and objectives outlined in the Healthy People 2020 but also addresses primarily physical wellness which one out of the seven dimensions of wellness. All of the three projects help to educate students on “how to maintain a healthy quality of life” (Wellness) so that they can go through daily life activities which is especially essential for college students when it comes to dealing with academics and their personal
