The Boone family shows that in the world, not everyone is normal or has normal relationships. As Christopher in placed in a more complicated situation over time, he is able to adapt and step over his boundaries, so he is able to suit his needs. Christopher has developed a stronger independence, as he is placed in a difficult situation. As he tries to run away from his father, he needs to make up his own decision in order to suit the situation. He is able to adapt, cross out the possibilities and travel to an unknown place, even though his mind does not want to leave. Using diagrams (the picture of the boxes with the arrows and the crossing out), the reader is able to look into Christopher mind, and interpret that Christopher evolved enough to decide a complicated decision.
