Crimes and Misdemeanors Fails to Effectively Capture Emotions Crimes and Misdemeanors fails to effectively capture emotions and instead leaves the viewer with a feeble pallet of feelings invoked by the characters. First, I will state what I consider to be the thesis of the movie and explain why I think that thesis aptly describes the main focus of the movie. Then, I will consider the objections to the thesis of the movie and how my claim interacts with those objections. Finally, I will state the response to my objections that could be made by the movie. Crimes and Misdemeanors follows Judah Rosenthal who plots to kill Delores Paley, Judah Rosenthal’s mistress, with his brother after she threatens to expose their affair. While we are watching Judah make decisions, it is clear that those who have money and use it to further themselves no matter how nefarious the deed end up ahead …show more content…
The film should have included more emotional qualities. It attempts to refute what I defined as the thesis but only meagerly, so meagerly it is hardly noticeable; however, had the film truly presented the characters as three dimensional, the film would be much more convincing. Additionally, in the film Cliff does not believe Judah’s statement that time diminishes guilt and offers his own take on that process; however, he did not ascertain the experiences that Judah has and should not be considered an expert on the subject diminishing his ability to aptly make the claim. Crimes and Misdemeanors tells an interesting story about deception and lust, but it fails to fully develop the characters as a true human is. The viewer is left with a shallow story of greed and power wins over all other actions and emotions.
