Courage is being scared to death…and saddling up anyway¨ John Wayne. Everyone thinks that courage is being the strong guy that fears nothing, but without fear there is no courage. You don't have to strong to be courageous as well, some people think that it's hard to relate to courage because they think courage is strength, but if you just think for a moment you might remember about a time that you were courageous. For some people this might be easy, but for others it can be a bit harder, but we can say that Anne Frank from The Diary of Anne Frank, or Atticus from To Kill A Mockingbird, and Jonas from The Giver have all experienced being courageous.

In Harper Lee’s book To Kill A Mockingbird the kids Jem and Scout think that courage is strength and that's being the strong one makes you courageous, but Atticus doesn't think that in chapter eleven Atticus says that “When you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and see through no matter what.” This shows that not all courageous people are strong and that being courageous won’t always mean that you'll win. This happened when Atticus was on trial with Tom Robinson, Atticus knew that he would lose the case but he had the courage to try anyway, many people in the town kept calling him a Nigger Lover, but he kept calm and had the courage not to do anything. Mrs. Dubose has also shown her courage by not taking her medicine. Mrs. Dubose was addicted to her medicine call morphine, without taking the medicine she gets things like seizures, this can kill her but she had the courage to try to stop her addiction, unfortunately she died trying to stop her
