Claudia’s parents are still alive. Her father is in jail and her mother is on the other side of the wall. Noah’s mother is older than she claims. And Noah’s parents just might be spies, as one of the German Democratic Republic police insist. With the secrets and lies coming out, the book starts to wrap up. Noah gets kicked out of East Germany and has to move to the other side because of it. Meanwhile, Claudia is still living with her grandmother and she doesn’t know what actually happened to her parents. Claudia is worried that since Noah moved he will forget her “like they all do” so Noah holds up a cardboard cloud to prove that he hasn’t forgotten. He does this every day, determined that Claudia will eventually see it, although everyone else has lost hope. Despite what everyone has said, Noah continues to hold up the cloud, until one day Claudia walks by and sees it. Noah and Claudia jump and wave in joy as they are each other’s only friends. This ends up being the closure in their relationship, except for the epilogue, where it mentions Noah sends postcards to Claudia’s old apartment. Plus Noah never got to say goodbye to Claudia before his parents took him home, away from the police station. I wish the author had added more closure to their relationship because Noah and Claudia’s relationship was the heart of the story and to have it end like that didn’t seem right. The book also didn’t fully come out
