In the quote by Christopher Columbus he states “By prevailing over all obstacles and distractions, one may unfailingly arrive at his chosen goal or destination” I thought this quote pertained to me because I know this year there are going to be many obstacles in English class, but if I just push myself I know I can reach my goal. As a reader and writer, I believe that I have grown stronger over the years. In the past, I did not like reading at all I would try to get by with reading as little of the stories as possible in order to pass. I felt this way until this summer when I started to read the books for English. I realized that not all books are boring and feel as if it takes forever to get through. The books I read over the summer got me hooked and I would find myself reading until three in the morning. Now I know that not all books are terrible, it just has to be a book that grabs my attention. As a reader I struggle reading out loud in front of a class. This year I need to work on reading aloud more fluently and with expression. As a writer, I believe I have grown stronger too. Just the other day I was looking through some of my essays from eighth grade. Back then I wondered why I didn’t get a good grade, but now I see that I would just go in circles and I would use the same words over and over again for example the word “you”.
