Analysis Of Child Observation Paper

Decent Essays
Some students were building a tower with blocks and after the teacher called him over to bring a toy, he used his hand to knock down all the foam blocks, the teacher reprimanded him, then he came back and started to used both of his hands to pick up large blocks in order to rebuild using the large foam blocks. He started playing with this ring toy where he stabilized the base and used the fingers of his other hands (finger and thumb) to remove the rings, which could be seen as building early. (Building middle at times as he was eating a cookie during snack time and was holding the cookie with his right hand while banging the table with his left hand.) I noticed the child using one hand to hold on the paper he was coloring, and then using the color with the other hand to make scribbles. The color was like a combination of a color pencil as well as crayon. He seemed to be able to hold the color but then he would seem to have trouble keeping it straight.

When observing a special education classroom I am not only observing the class, but I am observing a glimpse into my future as a teacher. I was privileged enough to observe a multi-needs intermediate classroom with students who range from eight to ten year olds at Hope D. Wall School who have moderate to server learning disorders and physical handicaps. The purpose of the multi-need classroom is for the teacher to assess which path the student will take after the year is over. For an example some students might need more intensive guidance during their education, while other students attend life skills classes in order to prepare for life outside of school. While I was observing the class, I was fortunate enough to witness the students participate…

Brian (a pseudonym) is a young child in the group of early childhood (3-5 years) in the daycare located in the Psychology building. He seems to be of Hispanic background and speaks English. He has nice clothing which suggests he is from a nice home with a family that provides clothing and food normally. Over winter break, I had the opportunity to work as a substitute preschool teacher at the Jewish Community Center of Columbus Ohio. I was placed in the Turtle Room, the classroom for two to three year olds. Since a large part of the student population is Jewish, the preschool cafeteria only provided Kosher foods. I distinctly remember one day talking to the lead teacher in the classroom, Amanda about how one little boy, Henry would never eat his lunch or snacks. Henry would stick to only the foods that he knew like mandarin oranges or carrots and that was all he would eat.…
