In the story, the narrator states that her husband would not listen to her when she would explain her sickness. "...perhaps that is one reason I do not get well faster. You see he does not believe I am sick!'' He was ignorant towards her mental health because he believed that she was overexaggerating. His ignorance led him to choose his beliefs over hers; thus, leading to her worsen. In the story it also shows where he communicates with his wife directing calling her by a name regularly used towards a young child. Indicating that when he addresses her using that nickname he is viewing her as if she was a child. Making her seem less of power than he is.
