As an undecided college student taking $405 per credit-hour classes in the hopes of one grasping my interest, this seems like an incredible waste. My parents expected me to get A’s throughout high school, join the National Honor Society, and have a job to look good on college applications. I was never offered the option of not going to college, although, I never refuted, because I didn’t consider other possibilities after high school. Problems like this are discussed in Charles Murray’s essay “Are Too Many People Going to College?”. This essay discusses the over used ideal of a college degree being a necessity.
