With his back against the wall, Charles Marchica has overcome many obstacles and dilemmas to become the self-proclaimed “Pizza King” of Melbourne. On December 1, 2005,
Marchica’s life changed forever when he was arrested for drug trafficking by the United States Federal Marshalls. On the same night, he lost his family, house and all earthly possessions. He was sentenced to a medium security prison in Jessop, Georgia, where he finished his high school diploma and started taking college classes in business administration. Life gave him the reality that there are good ways and bad ways to reach your goals. As a drug dealer, Marchica made over $100,000 a month in cash, but the role had no rewards past the money. Marchica was poised to lose everything, and he did for five years of his life. The role of felon had no reward, but through his persistence, he learned a clean lifestyle has benefits once unimaginable.
In 2015, Marchica was a member of the chamber of commerce, business leader, and employer of fifty. Marchica feels rewarded every day from the love of his family and the respect of his employees.
“People respect me for who I am in the community. Most of them know I had a bad past, but they love my pizza and know I go the extra mile to make them happy,” Marchica said.
One day, Marchica plans to have a franchise of pizza places all over the world. The hope of that dream is reward enough. He shares that he sleeps soundly at night and even though the felon cannot change the past, the business owner knows that hard work in the future will get him to any goal he sets his mind to.
