Technology, it overruns our daily lives constantly. Teenagers are always spending time on their phones and laptops every day, yet the arts are being lost as fast as technology is developing. Furthermore, the art of literature is being lost. We see people on their phones texting and tweeting to express themselves, but what happened to sitting down and getting lost in a book? How about journaling to let loose and express yourself? That is what literature is. It’s being able to be yourself in a way that let’s you reflect and pay closer attention to your life and your experiences. As C.S. Lewis says, “Literature adds to reality, it does not simply describe it. It enriches the necessary competencies that daily life requires and provides; and in …show more content…
The Cat in the Hat is easily one of the most identifiable morals Seuss has created. The very first thing that happens in the book is the children are left at home alone, to be in charge of themselves and make there own decisions. When reading this you begins to think how much this is actually similar to real life and how children are constantly forced with temptation in modern times. As Seuss says, “So we set in the house we did nothing at all. Doing nothing at all, is something I will not allow in my home.” Seuss tries to make it evident that it is not okay to abandon your children and leave them alone but it also is entirely different to watch them sit and do nothing. He makes you aware of the fact that, even though it’s raining outside the children are simply going to, “sit sit sit sit”. I cannot emphasis how much this is like today’s society when all children do is sit on electronics and not interact with the real world and outside. They are not reading or doing something that is going to benefit them in the long run. When reading Seuss I think one of his best characteristics is his ability to make you aware of a social or political problem but yet in a way that is entertaining. “Then walks in the cat in the hat as if he owns the place promising fun and many good tricks. As he puts it, “I will show them to you, your mother will not mind at all if I

Revered as the culmination of all his work, C.S. Lewis’ Till We Have Faces is the recipient of scholars’ praise and the author’s favoritism. Scholars praise Lewis for his ability to transform a narrow classical myth into a universally applicable story. While this universality owes itself to the fictitious nature of the novel, it is also rooted in the theme of love. In order to fully elucidate the concept of love as he understood it, Lewis published The Four Loves. He first distinguishes between two base forms of love: need-love and gift-love.…

Many people believe that literature only comes from the thoughts and styles of writers. They also think that words don't mean anything to anyone, and that literature is just words. However it is more than just that, literature is a reflection of events in life and experiences of society. C.S. Lewis’s book, An Experiment in Criticism is about the quality of the book depends on how it is read since a book does not have a goal of being “good” or “bad”. Lewis achieves this by defining the differences between a “good” and “bad” reader within each chapter of the book. Lewis claims that “bad work never is nor can be enjoyed by anyone” (Page 21). This contradiction undermines Lewis by stating that there are such things as “good and bad art”. Lewis is logical with his syllogism and arguments.…
