Figure 01-1: The Modal Share of Public Transportation Service in GCR
A public transportation mode is usually characterized by three attributes: right of way, technology, and type of service (Vuchic, 2007). Accordingly, public transportation modes in GCR are classified as: buses and minibuses, microbuses, metro, tram, and river bus.
Buses and Minibuses
Buses and minibuses used in GCR are rubber-tired steered vehicles running on asphalt. The number of seats in most of buses is about 45 seats and the capacity may reach more than 80 passengers in the peak hours. The number of seats on a minibus is about 24 seats and the capacity may reach more than 45 passengers in the peak hours. The minibus size is smaller than the buses as shown in Figure 1-2. All buses and minibuses operate in a mixed traffic environment with no exclusive bus lanes, bus-ways or any preferential treatment for buses.
