What I believe is meant by this is that the characters, especially Buffy, needs to do research on whatever is going on in the town and for the viewer the “knowing” part comes from tuning in every week. Those who do tune in on a regular basses will be more inclined to learn what Buffy and her friends are learning. This particular show is deeply rooted into learning about history. The one location that keeps popping up is the school library. Now if that in its self is not a major symbol of the thirst of knowledge, “knowing”, then I would have no idea what is. Because Buffy and her friends are always in the library looking for ways of “knowing” their foe, the whole show is based around this idea of knowledge or “knowing.” Hastie suggests that there has been no other television show that has been so centered around a library (13). Hastie goes on to state that in the first three season Giles, Buffy’s watcher¸ is indeed a librarian and the library provided the prefect training ground in research and debates about the acquired knowledge (13). In Season two: Episode eighteen, titled “Killed by Death”, Buffy gets sick and Willow and Giles are in the library trying to make sense of what could have happened to her. Giles suggest that Buffy can get sick and it is natural. Willow suggests that since they are on top the “Hellmouth” that they should look into the doctor. Then they go off to do some research. They find put that the doctor has numerous complaints and lawsuits against him. Latter they find out that the doctor was helping the kids in the hospital and there was an invisible creature that was terrorizing the kids. Giles goes back to the library to find out what the creature is.
