Change is necessary but we all know change is sometimes hard and that everyone feels different about change. Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson is about changing her life. As she is changing her life she goes through different emotions said in the lyrics of the song.
In breakaway she is happy and sad at the same time. One quote says “Out of the darkness and into the sun But I won’t forget all the ones that I love. She talks about going to a happier place but will miss her family and friends. Another example is this quote “ I’ll spread my wings and I’ll learn how to fly I’ll do what it takes till I touch the sky.” It sounds like she’s moving somewhere else and is happy about the move. Music has the ability to elicit strong sensational feelings from the listener and often it comes from a unique blend of the song itself and the environment surrounding the listener. One song can leave your whole body covered in goose bumps with your hair sticking straight up; this is exactly what happened to me when I heard Renegade by Styx for the first time. Styx is an American rock band from Chicago that dominated the rock scene in the mid 1970’s and early 1980’s. Renegade was released in 1979 when Styx was comprised of five members; the song made its way to #16 on the billboard that year but it’s impact has stood the test of time and is felt just as strongly today.…

The Setting: “Stressed Out” by Twenty One Pilots was released in May 2015 along with their full album Blurryface. The meaning behind the song is about the transition into adulthood from childhood and having to live up to society’s expectations. The last couple of years has been a mark in history for fighting for individual rights and against society’s standards. 37 states have now legalized same sex marriage and people are beginning to stand up for their rights that they believe the government takes advantage of. The movement on feminism is also fighting back against what society has portrayed women to be.…

As well as others, I closely relate to the song “Whiskey” by Jana Kramer, because I too have had my heart broken by someone I loved (“Whiskey by Jana Kramer”). The accuracy this song portrays of the emotions and feelings I was dealing with is astonishing. The first time I heard this song I was brought to tears by lyrics and story of her heartbreak. As much as I refused, I was left thinking and wondering about my breakup and analyzing my relationship all over again. The song talks about her boyfriend conveying himself as a “fine young man”; when in reality he is known as a party boy and allows others to be manipulated by his words and actions (“Whiskey Jana Kramer”).…

I had "Girl On Fire" by Alicia Keys in mind, but I chose my daughter’s favorite song, “Roar” by Katy Perry. This song is her anthem, and she will make you nauseous every time she sings it at the top of her lungs. What makes this song so powerful is because of the apparent reason that it has a motivational aspect that empowers women to break the mold of female stereotypes. The idea of Katy “roaring” speaks about women who can take care of themselves without needing to be rescued, much like the image of Katy portrays in the music video. She overcame her fears and conquered the jungle, through her willpower and strength.…
