The author Arana states in the book, "Never in the history of the Americas had one man so transformed so much territory, united so many races. Bolivar did not have an experience or great knowledge about the military but was able to form armies from different classes. With his Enlightenment ideas for the better of the continent Bolivar was a brilliant leader. His leadership skills earned him the name “Iron Ass”, because of his traveling around on horseback. He was later known as the liberator and founder of a united Grand Colombia, lasting from Panama to Peru. Bolivar had to deal with racial diversity along his way to conquering. Bolivar managed to defeat Spain and liberate South America. He created the six nations that are Panama, Columbia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru, and Bolivia. Though the only reactions he received was jealousy, and political dysfunction. What Bolivar did not want is exactly what happened after his death and was a leader like Hugo Chavez. While Chavez died a rich man, Bolivar died poor. Bolivar insisted that freedom of the press yet Chavez did not agree. The only thing they both had in common was the Latin American love. Bolivar managed to unite the people of creoles, mestizo, and other indigenous people. What the US leaders did was kill of the indigenous and take over. While Bolivar wanted to unite them and be liberated. Their main difference was that Bolivar wanted liberty and glory and Chavez just wanted to fight the US.
