Technology is changing our lives. “Better than Humans: Why robots will – and Must – Take our jobs” by Kevin Kelly and “I Had a Nice Time with You Tonight. On the App” by Jenna Wortham. Both of these articles tells how technology have changed our lives. Kevin Kelly’s argument that technology is changing our way of living. We are becoming less responsible to finish our tasks and more reliable on machines to do it for us. Kelly analysis of the causes, consequences and solutions to new technology can help us understand the Wortham’s essay. First, Kelly explains the causes of technology, which contributes to her argument that it’s a serious problem. In describing the causes, Kelly describes how technology is making things easier for us. If we examine Wortham’s essay alone, we can see that she focuses on the issue of the use of online applications. For example, she states, “because of the communications on the online applications is less formal than a phone call or an e-mail, it feels like the kind of casual conversation you might have over a meal or while catching television together” (394). But even so, she makes a good point that online applications help her to video chat or text her partners that strengthen their relationship. However, with Kelly’s help, we can see something new in Wortham’s observations. Without Kelly, we just focus on the causes of upgrading to technology in the context of video chatting and other ways of communications. With Kelly, we can see that new technology actually contributed to the ways of our communication. Furthermore, as discussed in the previous paragraph, Kelly identifies upgrading to new technology is the cause of change how we communicate with each other, so we can now see the underlying causes of communications that we could not have seen without Kelly’s
