Better Off Dead Analysis

“Better off Dead” by Sleeping with Sirens is a song about a girl who feels alone, depressed and wanting to commit suicide. The girl feels that she doesn't belong anywhere and believes that suicide would finally end the voices and her depression. I also believe that the song represents the people of today about how they feel with their depression and suicidal thoughts. For example, the lyrics, “And the demons that she has are all she knows” and “If I was would it finally be enough To shut out all those voices in my head?”. To me make me believe that the voices in her head make her depression worst and make her want to commit suicide. The voices tell her to commit suicide and also makes her believe all the negative things people say about her. When it says, “And the demons that she has are all she knows” makes me believe that she thinks she’s …show more content…
Makes me believe that she was trying to fight off her depression and suicidal thoughts but it was hard and she was struggling. In the music video when these lyrics are being said, it shows the girl is getting deeper and deeper into depression, It also shows in the video, the girl was dragged into the basement. I believe this is a metaphor, as the basement is her depression and when she was dragged into the basement she was dragged by her demons, and she was lost to her depression. People today who are depressed feel like they don't have a voice or that nobody understands them. I also believe that when the lyrics, “How come no one heard her when she said Maybe I'm better off dead” are being said it's telling that the girl is hesitant to commit suicide, but the girl wants relief from the voices and pain. Like the lyrics say, “If I was would it finally be enough To shut out all those voices in my head?”. She wants the voices gone. For example, by the end of the song, it shows her running up the stairs fighting her depression and suicidal

The lyrics of the song are tragic in the way of being about self-consummation of the girl always worrying about her beauty, fate in the relationship not lasting with a hurtful companion, and release of the girl hopefully one day finding her true self and being okay with that. The lyrics also deal with dramatic illusion by having an uncertain destiny with the girl finding her beauty, and can be a little intense by saying the girl was more confident before the relationship or even before what other people thought. Based on those, this song is incongruent, meaning the controversial message is made more acceptable and the tranquility of the musicality helps that work…

The meaning behind this song is to not fear the reaper, or death. The song itself is written from the perspective of death, death talks about how it should not be feared and it even tells you “Baby take my hand, we’ll be able to fly”(Cult). Death then goes on to explain that along with Romeo and Juliet’s death 40,000 people every day die just like they did. Now fitting in with the Romeo and Juliet theme death tells the listener that a woman lost her husband or lover “and it was clear she couldn’t go on”(Cult). So then Death appeared and told her not to be afraid and take his hand, which she did causing her death accordingly.…

Dime- Store Lips Singer songwriter Ray LaMontagne sings my favorite and most cherished song. This is a song that I am very close to and one that I have sat down and played more times in a row than I can count. In the song “Empty” Ray LaMontagne sings from his troubled point of view expressing his feelings of sorrow and numbness. “Empty” is a song that speaks for my hindered ability to open up and speak out about the things that go through my mind on a daily basis and the consequences to my silence. Ray LaMontagne has a very bleak and pessimistic point of view of the world due to his empty feelings and he captures the aspect of what it is really like to live with the numbness that comes with my silence.…

If you didn’t know it was written about a child passing away you could interpret it as a breakup or a child growing up and moving out for the first time. It paints a portrait of someone absolutely trying to cope with a loved one not being around anymore. You feel the pain of someone trying to put away constant reminders of a loved one in an effort to heal. I wouldn’t say they are trying to forget about them completely, just moving the physical memories out of sight. The chorus of this song leaves so much open to interpretation that people have linked the lyrics to drug addiction and even chasing a relationship between two friends.…

This song talks about the speaker who is abused by her boyfriend but she stands by him because she loves him. This is similar to when we find out that Mayella was abused by her father but still loves him because well, it’s her father. They both show unhealthy relationships and how bad things can be at home. The mood in both of this song and the book is desperate. They are both desperate for love and will do anything to stay by their family/man.…

For centuries and even modern days people have believed that poems were more advanced than song lyrics. However as time moves on songs actually have developed. Have you ever heard a song that has impacted your life? Songs are a form of art that allows artists to express their feelings in a form of music. Songs can be interrupted in many ways; some songs have a more literal meaning, while other songs require you to interpret the lyrics to understand the deeper meaning. Artists often use figurative, metaphorical, and poetic elements in their songs to help develop the overall message. The use of figurative terms in a song leaves the interpretation of the song broad and allows the listener to have their own meaning of the song.…
