Analysis Of Bellarmine College Prep

Improved Essays
Bellarmine College Prep incorporates the Chinese philosophies of Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism through their motto "Men For and With Others", daily meditation, and JUG. Bellarmine calls others to help one another by being "Men for Others". This ties to the Confucian teachings of Li "The courtesy and etiquette by which people should treat one another"(Text). Bellarmine’s motto calls for all the students to be compassionate and respectful to one another. This compares to the idea of Li, which symbolizes morality and courtesy. Also, Bellarmine aims for the students to meditate daily, a time to self-reflect and a time to calm their minds through nature. This follows the Daoist beliefs “Living in harmony with Nature” (Text). In “Why Colleges Shower Their Students with A’s”, Brent Staples explains and questions the reason behind grade inflation in colleges. Primarily, Staples discusses how college professors are stuck between pleasing students and the administration; therefore, being forced to inflate grades for the profit of the college. Staples mentioned that professors inflate grades to escape the pressure put on them from consumer-conscious administrators and to avoid the negative feedback from the evaluations taken by the students (Staples 1-2). This implies that professors are being pressured into inflating grades by administration and students. Next, Staples emphasizes the competition between traditional colleges and online colleges, like the University of…

The appeal that senses to the right and wrong of the reader is ethical. By appealing to the reader’s sense of right and wrong means if the reader can trust what the author is saying, or if the author is trustworthy, or what the author says or does to make the reader feel he is credible. Rose says, “The error went undetected, and I remained in the vocational track for two years. What a place.” That informs the reader that he has been through the vocational track and has the personal experiences that no one can doubt.…

As the season of fall approaches here at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi, I have reached the middle of my fall semester as a freshmen college student. Midterms are approaching and I am pulling my hair out due to the sleepless nights and long hours of studying for midterms. There are some students are planning activities for Halloween while I on the other hand am preparing my study guide for my Microeconomic midterm. The closest to a break I would have from school would be Thanksgiving break, and during the break I would return home and begin working for my family. All the stress I am feeling about school could be due to my unorganized school schedule and responsibility of renting an apartment.…

Fremont high school isn’t a common high school like the ones depicted in movies. Fremont high is merely a day prison for students. Students are caged by an eight-foot steel fence topped with spikes. These types of gates are rare on high school grounds, but are very common to prisons. Fremont high faces many issues and the students endured more than what should attending a high school, from quick lunch breaks to rarely any restroom supplies and teachers hardly ever showing up.…

College: What it Was, Is, and Should Be by Andrew Delbanco (2012) provides a comprehensive chronological overview of higher education from its origins to the present day. Upon reading the title I assumed the subsequent pages would drag on about the failures of higher education and list a fool proof way of correcting said issues, I am happy to announce I was incorrect. In the book’s six short chapters Delbanco manages to take us back in time and review the origins of higher education in order to better understand where we are today. In the first three chapters Delbanco reviews the evolution of college, which originally stirred from religion, and became the way society groomed young men of age. In 1886 founding president of John’s Hopkins stated that college should always be a place for the development of a student’s character (p.42).…

Do You Enjoy Saint Joseph’s College? For our final project in Business Statistics, we chose to pose the question, “What affects one’s enjoyment of Saint Joseph’s College?” In other words, are there direct correlations between things like gender and school year and one’s enjoyment of SJC? We though perhaps one’s gender might affect how much they enjoyed SJC – perhaps females enjoyed their time at this institution more than males.…

This semester has been a very difficult, stressful, and challenging for me . High School can not compare the amount of stress I had to face in this fall semester at Hostos Community College. However, it is like that with many other students because making a transition is frightening and many of us find a way to run away from it. Everything in life is a challenge and it is scary as well, but for those who want to study it all starts of with college. It took me more than words to actually realize the reality that I am actually living right at this very moment because, I was not expecting so many things to fall apart, but somehow becoming whole again.…
