Time theft is described in Nickel and Dimed as “ Doing anything other working during company time, anything at all. Theft of our time is not, however,an issue.” (Ehrenreich 146) Not only employees are guilty for “time theft” companies and the management are guilty of it s well, but in a different sense. A company can commit time theft by not properly paying workers for the time that they have put into their work, although, employees that “ exhibit ” “ time theft” are the only ones punished. Companies should also actively be punished for time theft if they are going to crack down so harshly on the employees. The crackdown on time theft has also lowered the morale of the employees, because they can't even catch a bathroom break or get too long of a lunch. The crackdown also keeps the employees paranoid about going to do the littlest things. The companies and managers may believe that the crackdown makes the employees morale, and work quality increase, but many workers would disagree.
