Right now, because of loopholes and shelters in the tax code, a quarter of all millionaires pay lower tax rates than millions of middle-class households. Right now, Warren Buffett pays a lower tax rate than his secretary.” This is a shocking fact considering Buffet, and the rest of the 2%, surely makes hundreds, if not thousands or millions, more than his secretary. The use of the statistics and the fact about Buffet is something that resonated with the American citizens viewing the speech. What he followed with is something they most likely agreed with, “Do we want to keep these tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans? Or do we want to keep our investments in everything else -- like education and medical research; a strong military and care for our veterans? …The American people know what the right choice is. So do I.”
President Obama ended the speech with “Each time I look at that flag, I 'm reminded that our destiny is stitched together like those 50 stars and those 13 stripes. No one built this country on their own. This nation is great because we built it together. This nation is great because we worked as a team.” In the end, the main goal of Obama’s speech was to motivate congress and the American people that America could get back on its feet again.
