The National Crime Records Bureau annual report in 2013 found that most rapes were committed by relatives or neighbors showing that the victim knew the rapist in 98 percent of the cases (Hosmelkar & Patil, 2014). If you apply these facts to Aristotle’s theory of virtue ethics and human flourishing, you should be able to grow happiness after a sexual assault because if the victim makes a wise choice and uses good judgement in their own decision making they will achieve happiness regardless of their situation. The victim would not be considered the one who made the poor decision during the assault, it would have been the offender who made thy poor choice. According to Aristotle, all things have a purpose and will flourish when fulfilling the propose they are designed for (Williams & Arrigo, 2012). If the victim continues to fulfill their purpose, they should flourish no matter their situation.
