There have been lots of works of literature throughout time, the poem of Argus is one of the more lesser known poems. This particular work of art is used to show love. For example,in “Argus” he waits to welcome back his master so long that once odysseus returned he was so old and frail he passed away in the moments of greeting odysseus. Odysseus says that he is not recognised or treated as if he were a slave, but yet when knowone else recognised him Argus came forth.In the painting Argus recognises Odysseus, Theodor Van Thulden uses the meeting of Argus and Odysseus and the death of Argus to show that sometimes once something good is done towards another it is remembered greatly, while in his poem “Argus”, Alexander Pope uses the same scene …show more content…
He passed away on july 12, 1669. Theodor died from old age and was a great loss to those who loved him and those people of his home in antwerp. As Theodors spirit in the art world left Antwerp there was a great drop in the art world of enthusiast and creators. Once something good is done something good will happen in return. True loyalty can come in many different ways such as in this case were the loyalty being shown is from Argus showing his admiration for odysseus after his long ten year journey away from his kingdom Argus shows his admiration by crawling to him with his last dying breaths and licks odysseus and then dies as odysseus cradles him in his arms. Argus waited out for as long as he possibly could and once odysseus returned from the journey and knowone else could recognise him not even his queen he died fulfilling his admiration to odysseus and showing his final thoughts and feelings of love to odysseus. Whenever it is said that the entire kingdom had admiration for him it revealed who truly did when he returned and only his faithful companion Argus could recognise him and show true loyalty and admiration back to
