College Matter In Which Way? In “Three Reasons College Still Matters” by Andrew Delbanco and “Not All College Major Are Created Equal” by Michelle Singletary both authors express their point of views about college. In the article by Delbanco, he states three reason why college matter. In Singletary’s article, she writes that college students should think and know what their major and work field they want to pursue and how much it pays. Even though Delbanco’s reasons are more specific, I agree with Singletary about how college students should know the work field and how much it pays.

Singletary argues newly graduates are left unemployed or can be in debt because they did not consider what jobs are available from their major. However, Singletary encourage people to strive for a career they love but to understand job opportunities and the annual income.
Delbanco and Singletary both have similar and different thoughts on college. Delbanco believes that college should be available or more accessible to everyone. Singletary adds to Delbanco’s economic part of his argument stating that once you get into college you should choose your college major wisely. They are also similar because they both say that college graduates with a degree make a lot of money.
Singletary writes about how some majors are not worth investing your time and money in and which is similar to Delbanco’s economic reason. Delbanco claims “Some estimates put the worth of a bachelors of arts degree at about a million dollars in incremental lifetime earnings.”(pg. 244) Then Singletary mentions, “Median annual earnings among recent college graduates … $30,000 in the arts.”(pg. 256) This shows that even with a bachelor in arts degree you can make less than $30,000 a year depending on your major.
