According to the studies, along with the increase in precipitation global warming relocates the precipitation and the greatest hits of these drought conditions were Darfur and Niger in the African continent. The rising population is directly proportional to the ever increase in demand for various goods and services. These consumption patterns are related to the concept of “Ecological Footprint” which is a measure of human impact on Earth's ecosystems i.e. it calculates the natural capital consumed each year. The Global Footprint Network is a measure which calculates the global ecological footprint from UN and other data. They had estimated that our planet has been using natural capital 1.5 times as fast as nature can renew it as per the data of the year 2007. UN Global Compact is the World’s largest corporate sustainability initiative which helps companies, whether big or small meet their commitments to operate responsibly and support the society. Sumner backs up this statement by expressing that 195 nations committed to an ambitious pledge to retaliate against climate change and control carbon emissions. In the next decade after the movie caught the public’s attention, scientists have made major advances in technology concerning climate change. The author later includes evidence on how an enhanced understanding of Earth’s inner workings and better climate-simulating computers have given experts a better grasp on how the climate will change. Better technology is a wonderful thing when it comes to predicting what the planet may be like in the future. This way if a simulation says Earth is doomed, humans can take precautionary steps to prevent the worst from…

Global Warming is a dilemma that has caused way more detriment than just affecting the climatic scenario around the world. Author Bill Mckibben in his article “Global Warming's New Terrifying Math” describes it as big as anything after “World War 2” that requires immediate action (Pg 1). On the other hand Naomi Klein in her article “Capitalism vs. The Climate” discusses how the “extractive mindset” (Pg 5) of rich industrialists and politicians is leading us into the doom era; the growth of economy would result in the loss of mother nature and many more things that are at stake. The approach that Mckibben uses is of mentioning numbers. Exact numbers give it a scientific touch and makes it striking.…

In her article “Are We Missing the Big Picture on Climate Change ?”, Rebecca Solnit argues that climate change is larger than our narrow minded perspective, resulting in it being hard to grasp. She also accuses the fossil fuel industry of being main contributor to this growing issue, that if allowed to continue, will destroy the planet. Through figurative comparisons, hypothetical strategies and second person point of view, Solinit strives to engrave in the minds of her audience the lasting impression climate change will have on the planet if left unattended. In the very beginning of her article, Solnit begins by getting the audience to sympathize with sparrows that are affected by the company in question.…

I thought that this film was incredibly well-made. I greatly appreciated the call-to-action near the film’s end, encouraging viewers to vote for leaders who will fight for climate change, especially since we are nearing a crucial election where one candidate has openly denied the existence of climate change, claiming that it is merely “a hoax” and that global warming is simply “the weather”. This feel made me feel anger, not only at my own ignorance, but at the inability of countries which are greatly contributing to climate change to act, especially the United States. While politicians in the United States are too concerned with fueling their reelection campaigns with the funds provided by interest groups and political action committees (PACs)…

The subject of climate change has been hotly debated over the past decade. It is now obvious that the climate is changing and that it is more than likely going to cause problems in the future. The amount of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere has considerably increased since the Industrial Revolution. As fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas, and crude oil are burned, carbon dioxide is discharged into the atmosphere where it is trapped. This is called the greenhouse effect and although essential to the survival of all life on Earth, this process has gotten out of hand recently.…
