How did you feel about the conversation?

I felt that the conversation that I had with Katherine went pretty well, she was very approachable and she welcomed me into her home in a nice and light hearted gesture. She made it really easy for me to talk to her by just being open with her answers. She did however had hard of hearing, so she requested that I would talk a little louder, which I did. For the most part our conversation was pleasant and successful.

Did it cause you to think about how you or your loved ones are aging?

The interview definitely made me think about how my parents are dealing with their aging selves as well, and Catherine’s stories of feeling scared about falling and losing her ability to hear or see has made me though

The first story that I listened to was “I’ve essentially lost my mother, although she’s still living.” It is about a woman named Teresa, who speaks about her mother battling Alzheimer’s and how awful it was to watch her mother live through the agonizing fear as her Alzheimer's progressed. She also speaks about how her mother’s side of the family has a 100% occurrence of the disease and that after being tested, it confirmed that she too would eventually develop Alzheimer's. It was compelling to hear Teresa speak about her mother in such a loving and caring way, but at the same time you could hear the slight fear in her voice as she recalled watching the disease progress over the years for her mother and her realization that she will one day experience the same thing.…
